DECLARATION FOR PENSION

State of Pennsylvania, County of Greene, On this 20th day of May, A.D. one thousand nine hundred and twelve, personally appeared before me, a Notary Public within and for the county and State aforesaid, Dennis Sanders, who, being duly sworn according to law,declares that he is 71 years of age and a resident of Rogersville, county of Greene, State of Pennsylvania; and that he is the identical person who was enrolled at Wheeling West Virginia, under the name of Dennis Sanders, on the 6 day of July, 1865. That he also served _____. That he was not employed in the military or naval service of the United States otherwise that as stated above. That his personal description at enlistment was as follows; Height, 5 feet 8 inches; complexion, dark, color of eyes, gray; color of hair, black; that his occupation was Shoemaker, that he was born October 1st, 1840, at Washington County, Pa. That he is totally disabled from performing manual labor by reason, disease of heart, chronic diarrhaea scurvy incurred in his imprissonment, at Andersonville, Savannah, and ? in Georgia.

That his several places of residence since leaving the service have been as follows; Greene County Pa, Mostly at Rogersville, Greene County where he has resided since 1873.

That he is a pensioner under certificate No. 207945. That he has _____ applied for pension under original NO. __________

That he makes this declaration for the purpose of being placed on the pension roll of the United States under the provisions of the act of May 11, 1912.

That his post office address is Rogersville, County of Greene, State of Pennsylvania

CLAIM OF MARY E. SANDERS FOR PENSION

STATE OF PENNSYLVANIA
COUNTY OF GREENE

Personally appeared before me, the subscriber, a notary public in and for the County and State aforesaid, Sarah Seckman, a reputable citizen of Franklin Township, Greene County, Pennsylvania, who upon being duly sworn according to law, deposes and says: that she is 72 years of age; that she was born and lived all her life in Greene County, Pa., and that she has known and been intimately aquainted with Mary E. Sanders, widow of Dennis Sanders, late of Rogersville, Greene County, Pa., deceased, since said Mary arrived at marriageable age. That her maiden name was Mary E. McCracken; that she was married first to Elijah Church, who died in or about the year 1867; that she was married the second time to Dennis Sanders on or about the 18th day of April, 1874; that she was present at the marriage of Mary E. Church and Dennis Sanders; that the ceremony was performed by Geo. W. Ullom, Justice of the Peace, at the home of Mary E. McCracken at a little town called Clinton, about one-half mile from Rogersville, Pa., and that she witnessed the ceremony, and that she thinks her brother, Thomas Seckman was present, also. That affiant's home was in Rogersville, Pa. aforesaid, and that she lived very near neighbors to the McCrackens. That from her intimate acquaintance with and knowledge of the said Mary E. McCracken since she arrived at marriageable age, she knows of her own personal knowledge that said Mary E. McCracken was not otherwise married than as above stated. That she has known Dennis Sanders, the soldier, since shortly before his marriage to Mary E. Church, only. That her Post Office address is Waynesburg, Pa., R.D. # 4 . That she has no interest in the prosecution of this claim.

DECLARATION FOR WIDOW'S PENSION
STATE OF Pennsylvania
COUNTY OF Greene

On this 19th day of February, A.D. one thousand nine hundred and eighteen personally appeared before me, a Notary Public within and for the County and State aforesaid, Mary E. Sanders, aged 76 years, a resident of Rogersville, County of Greene, State of Pennsylvania who was born on the 16th day of November, 1841 and who, being duly sworn according to law, makes the following declaration in order to obtain pension under the provisions of the ACT OF CONGRESS APPROVED April 19, 1908, and its supplements, that she is the widow of Dennis Sanders, who was enrolled under the name of Dennis Sanders at New Creek Sta. B & O R.R. on the Twenty-Third day of December, 1863, as a Private in Company "B" 1st Reg. W.Va. Cav, and honorably discharged July Eighth, 1865, having served ninety days or more during the late civil war.

That he also served as a private in Co. "B" 1st W.Va. Cav. from the 29th day of August, 1861 to the 31st day of December, 1863, from which organization he was discharged by reason of re-enlisting as a Veteran Volunteer.

That he was not in the military or naval service of the United States otherwise than as stated above. That she was married under the name Mary E. Church to said soldier at Rogersville, Pa. on the Eightenth day of April, 1874 by George Ullom J.P. that there was no legal barriers to the marriage; that she had been previously married that the soldier had been previously married, that she was previously married to Elijah Church who died August 25th, 1867 at Rogersville, Pa; that soldier had been previously married to Ella Burroughs from whom he was divorced and who afterwards died. That neither the applicant or the soldier had been otherwise married than as stated above.

That the said soldier died February 11th, 1918 at Rogersville, Pa. that she was not divorced from him, and that she was not remarried since his death. That the said soldier left the following-named children who are now living and under sixteen years of age, to-wit: Soldier left no children under 16 years of age, That she has not heretofore applied for pension.

That she hereby appoints M. Elliott Waggaman, of Washington, D.C. her true and lawful Attorney, to prosecute her claim, (F.W. Downey, Esq. of Waynesubrg, Pa.) [Waggaman crossed out, Downey written in. ]

That her postoffice address is Rogersville, County of Greene State of Pennsylvania

Burroughs, residing in Rogersville, Pa. and Anna Church, residing in Rogersville, Pa. persons whom I certify to be respectable and entitled to credit, and who, being by me duly sworn, say they were present and saw Mary E. Sanders the claimant make her mark to the forgoing declaration; that they have every reason to believe, from the appearance of said claimant and their acquaintance with her of 20 years and 20 years, respectively, that she is the identical person she represents herself to be, and that they have no interest in the prosecution of this claim.

On this 7 day of March, A.D., 1918, before me, the subscriber, a Notary Public in and for the County and State aforesaid, personally came Wiley Sanders, a reputable citizen of the Borough of Washington, Washington County, Pennsylvania, who upon being duly sworn according to law, deposes and says: That he is a brother of Dennis Sanders, late of Rogersville, Greene County, Pa., deceased; that he was 70 years of age on his last birthday; that he was born in Greene County, Pa., on the 28th day of August 1847; that he lived at home with his brother, Dennis Sanders, until the year 1861, when he went to Army; That his brother, Dennis Sanders, was first married to Ella Burroughs, on or about the year 1865 or 1866; that they were afterwards divorced someplace in Iowa, and that he does not know the date of the divorce; that his brother, Dennis Sanders, next married Mary E. Church, widow of Elijah Church of Rogersville, Greene County, Pa., on or about April 18, 1874; that he lived with his second wife until the date of his death, and they were never divorced, or separated in any way until death dissolved the marriage. That he knew his brother, Dennis Sanders, from the time the said Dennis arrived at marriageable age, and had an intimate knowledge of his movements, except as to the four years he was absent in the civil war, and the 2 years he was absent in Iowa, or lived in Iowa, and that the said Dennis Sanders was not married other than as above stated, to the best of his knowledge and belief, and if he had been, affiant would have heard of it, or had knowledge of it. That his post office address is 835 Allison Ave., Washington, Pa., and that he has no interest, either direct or indirect in the prosecution of this claim.

DECREE

Now on this 19th day of September 1872 this cause coming on for trial on the Petition, and evidence of the Plff. and said Deft. Dennis Saunders having been three times called in open Court and came not and the Court having heard the allegations and evidence of the Plff. in this cause and being fully advised in the premises finds that the Deft. deserted said Plff. as alleged in Petition and evidence of Plff. and that Plff. is entitled to a Divorce from the bonds of matrimony from said Deft. as prayed for in said Petition.

It is therefore ordered, adjudged and decreed by the Court that said Ellen Saunders be, and is divorced from the bonds of matrimony with said Dennis Saunders.

And it is further ordered, adjudged and decreed by the Court that said Plff. Ella Saunders shall have the sole right, control, custody and care of Deby Saunders and Finney Saunders the same being the children of said, Ella Saunders and said Dennis Saunders
