EWING TRIMBLE ATKINSON was born August 27th, 1841. He was a reported athlete. Although he stood at 5' 10", he could reportedly jump over his brother (Samuel)'s head. Samuel was 6ft tall. They would place a yard stick on Samuel's head and Ewing would stand and jump over his head without knocking off the stick. In the army they had wrestling bouts. Uncle Ewing was never thrown and came across but one man he could not throw. After the war he went to Missouri where he remained for several years. He married Clara Clemens (cousin of Samuel Clemens) before he drifted to Denver, Colorado. He was reported to be one of the best judges of livestock in that part of Colorado. (This story was passed down by Ewing's niece, the daughter of Samuel.)
