Prisoner of War Records show him captured at Front Royal, Va., October 12, 64, brought from Lynchburg, Va. and conf'd at Richmond, Va., October 22, 1864. Pardoned at Richmond, Va. Febry. 15, 65. Reported at College Green Bk's, Md., Febry. 14, 65, sent to Camp Chase, Ohio, Febry. 19, 65, when he arrived Febry. 24, 65, furloughed March 4, 65, for 30 days: (no medical certificate on file recommending an extension of furlough.) No further information on said records.      The records of this office furnish no evidence of disability.

     Respectfully returned to the Commissioner of Pensions. Robert Hanson, Private Recruit of Company D, 1st Regiment West Va. Cavalry Volunteers, was enrolled on the 22nd day of February, 1864, at Wheeling, W. Va. for 3 yrs., and is reported:
present in Forwdg. Roll dated Wheeling, W. Va. Feb. 23, '64. There are no Rolls of Co. on file subsequent to enlistment until Sept. & Oct. '64 which reports him absent. Prisoner of War since Oct. 15, '64. Nov. & Dec., '64 (last on file) same report. Return Feb., '64 not on file. March, '64 does not report him absent. Subsequent returns to Nov., '64 inlusive, not on file, Jan., '65 not on file. Feby. to June, '65 inclusive do not show him absent.
     Muster out Roll of Co. dated Wheeling, W. Va. July 8, '65 reports him mustered out that date with Remark: Taken prisoner Oct. 12, '64; Paroled Feb. 17, '64.

Declaration for Pension

County of Grant} SS:

     On this 15 day of February 1907, personally appeared before me, T. J. Sherman, a Notary Public, within and for the County and State aforesaid, Robert Hanson a resident of the Nat'l. Mil. Home County of Grant State of Indiana, who, being duly sworn according to law, declares that he is the identical Robert Hanson who was enrolled on the 15 day of Jany. 1863 Co. "D" 1st Regt. W. Va. Cav'y Vols. in the service of the United States in the Civil War and served at least 90 days and was Honorably Discharged at Wheeling, W. Va. on the 15 day of July 1865, and asks for a pension of [$15 per month; 75 years or over, $20] That he is 78 years of age having been born October 5, 1828. That he has formerly applied under certificate No. 486,935.
     That he makes this declaration for the purpose of being placed on the pension roll of the United States under the act of February 6, 1907.
     He hereby appoints with full power and substitution and revocation, T. J. Sherman of Marion, Indiana, his true and lawful attorney to prosecute this claim. That his Post-office address is Nat'l. Mil. Home County of Grant state of Indiana.
