ISAAC LANCASTER, Company "M"

Isaac Lancaster was born February 1845, the son of John and Cassander Lancaster. He married Matilda Moore 01 Mar 1898. Isaac died in 1915 in Wetzel County, West Virginia and is buried there in Low Gap Cemetery, Center District. His brothers, David, Peter, John, and George W. also served in the Civil War.

     The Civil War medal of Isaac was claimed from the West Virginia State Archives Jul 2001 by Deborah Lancaster Butcher, a descendant of Isaac's brother, David.

     I, ISAAC LANCASTER, born in Wetzel Co. in the State of Virginia, aged TWENTY years, and by occupation a FARMER, do hereby acknowledge to have volunteered this EIGHTH day of MARCH, 1865, to serve as a soldier in the Army of the United States of America, for th period of ONE year, unless sooner discharged by proper authority: Do also agree to accept such bounty, pay, rations, and clothing, as are, or may be, established by law for volunteers. And I, ISAAC LANCASTER, do solemnly swear, that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the United States of America, and that I will serve them honestly and faithfully against all their enemies or opposers whomsoever; and that I will observe and obey the orders of the President of the United States, and the orders of the officers appointed over me, according to the Rules and Articles of War.
