Claimant's Affidavit.

State of West Va County of Wetzel, ss:
     In the matter of Jacob Powers on this 12th day of October, 1887, personally appeared before me, a Notary Public in and for the aforesaid County, duly authorized to administer oaths, I am between 49 and 48 years, a resident of ----- in the County of Wetzel, and State of West Va. whose post office address is Silverhill, West Va., and well known to me to be reputable and entitled to credit, and who, being duly sworn, declares as follows:

In one year at Hanztown, Marshall Co. W Va. after the war in 1866, one year in Irway, Davis County, Bloomfield P O in the year 1867 i com back to Bellton P O Marshel County W Va lived thare til the year 1880 sins that time my P O has been Silverhill, Wetzel Co., W Va. I have worked around over the cuntry at littel jobs of work & by the day some timbs I farm a littel sins my discharg up to date I received my hurt at Wheeling, W Va. in the year 1865 by the hous faling down that we was campt in while wating my discharge i have suffered ever sins from the hurt Dr. Mury of Haztown, W Va. treeted me he is dead. Dr. Iteger , Cameron, W Va. he is dead Dr. Dunkens Cameron W Va. he treted me has rote out a statement for me but wont let me have it till I can pay him five dollers of a fee which i cant doo as i have hard work to keep somthing for my self & family.      On this 22nd day of February, 1889, personally appeared before me, a notary public, in and for the aforesaid County, duly authorized to administer oaths, claimant aged 47 years, a resident of Center, in the County of Wetzel and State of West Va whose post office address is Silverhill, and well known to me to be reputable and entitled to credit, and who, being duly sworn, declares as follows:

We was campt in a tan house on the Wheeling Island wating to bee discharged thare came a wind storm and blowed that house down on us. I was hurt so i can't tell what part it have this i can't give the corect date it was about July the 1st 187? as it was but few days before we was discharged. I was discharged July the 29th 1865.

The resen that i can't furnish Dunkens statement is he maid out a statement for me an he wanted to charge me six dollers and i only had five dollers to him and the tis and he would not let me have the statement after he had made oath to it before T C Pipes, Cameron, W Va. (Typed as it was written and spelled.)
