Declaration For Widow's Pension
Act of June 27, 1890-May 9, 1900

State of Pennsylvania, County of Allegheny, ss:
on this 4th day of April, A. D. one thousand nine hundred and three (1903) personally appeared before me, a notary public within and for the County and State aforesaid Margaret J. Lindsay, aged 57 years, a resident of the city of Pittsburg, County of Allegheny, State of Penn., who being duly sworn according to law, declares that she is the widow of Thomas Lindsay who enlisted under the name of Thomas Lindsay at Wheeling, W. Va., on the 8th day of August, 1861, in Co. K, 1st Regt. West Va. Mounted Infty. (also enlisted Aprill 22, 1861 at St. Clairsville, O. in Co. K, 17th Regt. Ohio Infty. Vols. & discharged Aug. 15, 1861) and served at least ninety days in the late War of Rebellion, who was honorably discharged from said first service Dec. 27/64, and died March 27th, 1903 at Pittsburg, Pa.

That she was married under the name of Margaret J. Forsythe, to said Thomas Lindsay, on the 3rd day of November, 1864, by Rev. Clarke, at Wheeling, West Va. there being no legal barrier to such marriage as neither one had ever been married before.

That she has not remarried since the death of the said Thomas Lindsay.

No children under the age of 16 listed.

That she has not heretofore applied for pension - soldier's pension cert. is No. 990,427.

That she makes this declaration for the purpose of being placed on the pension roll of the United States under the provisions of the Act of June 27, 1890 and May 9, 1900. She hereby appoints J. H. Stevenson of Pittsburg, Pa. her true and lawful attorney to prosecute her claim, and she directs that the sum of ten dollars be paid him for his services.

That her post office address is No. 148 Marsden St. 23rd ward, Pittsburg, County of Allegheny, State of Penn.

     In the matter of the Pension Claim of Margaret J. widow of Thomas Lindsay late of Co. "K", 1st Regiment W. Va. Cav. Volunteers, in the war of the Rebellion.
     Personally appeared before me, a Clerk of the County Court in and for said County, duly authorized to administer oaths Mrs. Sarah Lyons who being by me first duly sworn, ................. according to law deposes and says: "I am 64 years of age, and my Post Office address is 1112 Market St., Wheeling, W. Va. also at the same time personally came before me said official Miss Emma Forsyth and she too being by me duly sworn .............deposes and says: "I am 51 years of age, and my Post Office address is 5 South Broadway, Wheeling, W. Va.
     Said affiants further depose and say that "they are sisters of the above named claimant and were well and personally acquainted with the soldier Thomas Lindsay ever since his boyhood days and on up till his death. Affiants therefore know and now depose that neither the claimant or said soldier had ever been married prior to their marriage to each other on the 3rd day of November 1864: that they both were present and saw said claimant and soldier marrie; that they always lived together as husband and wife all the time after their said marriage and were never separated by divorce, nor has the claimant remarried since the death of said soldier.
     That claimant does not now, nor has she owned any real estate, or property, whatever except personal clothing and household goods since the death of said soldier and that her only income and means of support is from.......

     In the matter of the Pension Claim of Margaret J. wid. of Thomas Lindsay late of Co. K, 1st Regiment W. Va. Cav. Volunteers, in the war of the Rebellion.
     Personally appeared before me, a notary public in and for said County, duly authorized to administer oaths Margaret J. Lindsay who being by me first duly sworn,...................according to law deposes and says: "I am 57 years of age, and my Post Office address is 148 Marsden St., Pittsburg, Pa.
     Said affiant further deposes and says that "she is claimant in this case and that neither she or said soldier had ever been married prior to their marriage to each other Nov. 3d, 1864 at Wheeling, W. Va. That she does not now, nor has she owned any property or real estate whatever since the death of said soldier, except personal clothing and some household goods and that her only means of support and income is from her own labor, nor has she any one legally compellable to support her. Soldier did not have any real estate whatever. He left a life insurance policy for $1250 in claimants favor this money she has received and now has and this is all the money she has received since the soldier died. Said policy was in the B. & O. R.R. company's relief fund.
