The History of Appanoose County, Iowa Chicago: Western Hist. Co., 1878. - Murdy, A. J., farmer, Sec. 30; P. O. Beetrace; born in Washington Co., Penn., in 1830; at the age of 10, with his father, removed to Greene Co., Penn., where he lived until 1872, when he came to this county, Washington Tp., where he owns 320 acres of land, valued at $30 per acre. He married Miss Christa McCosh in 1852; she was born in Washington Co., Penn., in 1830; died in 1852, leaving one child. Then married Miss Eliza Clendening, who was born in West Virginia in 1832; died in 1871, leaving eight childres - Winfield, F. S. (now resident physician of Moulton, this county), Alice J. (now Mrs. Geo. Stockwell, of this township), John A., William C., Isabel, Andrew C., Robert L. and Albert, who is now a resident of West Virginia; then married Mrs. Sarah L. Shelton in 1873; she was born in East Virginia in 1840; they have three children - Minnie, Robert D. and Loa. Was a Republican; helped to organize the party; now a Greenbacker. Mrs. M. is a member of the Christian Church. - Enlisted in the 1st W. Va. Cav. in 1863; participated at Gettysburg, through Sheridan's campaign, Winchester, Cedar Creek, Fisher's Hill and in all twenty battles; mustered out in July, 1865, at Wheeling, Va.

Skiler, A Lieutenant E Watkins (sic-should be SKILES)

(*Benton Co) (assume this is the Archibald SKILES on the list- His wife was Emily Hayden and he had a daughter Capitola b Dec 1869 in Benton Co IA who married Charles H Tully and moved to Nebraska) In 1878 he resided in Watkins, Benton Co where he was a farmer on Sec 24 St Clair Twp; According to the 1878 Andreas "Illustrated Historical Atlas of Iowa" he was a farmer in Sec 6 of St Clair Twp born in Lancaster Co PA came to Benton Co in 1864 and his post office was at Watkins.

Waddle, Thomas Private -- Dallas (*Marion Co) not on list unless this is Thomas Wendell (there was no company given for him in the 1885 book) (NOTE: Not Thomas Waddle in any WV regiment. - Linda Fluharty)

Weaver, D D Private C Clifton (Weaver David D) - *(Louisa Co--weird--I never heard of Clifton and I've got relatives all over Louisa Co...my cousin says it was near Cotter which is also a pretty much defunct town and Louisa Co is crawling with Weaver families)

Woods, Foster H Private I Creston (*Union Co) (Woods, Foster H. born 05 Jun 1837 d 29 Apr 1914 bur Grove Chapel Cemetery Kent Twp Union Co IA, Add. N-2nd row Grave 6 single lot; WPA cemetery records noted in 1930's a G.A.R. Marker, WV 1 Co I and that the lot was "In fair shape". In 3rd row Lots 7 and 8 are his wife Martha M (18 Dec 1837-16 Apr 1878) and son Frank L (1861-1935) (son is noted as son of Foster).
