George Mallonee said he was 43 years old when he enlisted to serve in the First West Virginia Cavalry on November 21, 1862. His volunteer enlistment, included in the Service Record, indicates he was a Blacksmith, born in Adams County, Pennsylvania. He mustered out on July 8, 1865, per West Virginia Adjutant General's Records.

An article in the Sandusky Daily Register, dated June 7, 1889, indicates that George Mallonee, a member of Company "D" 1st West Virginia Cavalry, and a resident of Summit County, Ohio, was admitted to the Old Soldiers & Sailors Home.

According to the Ohio Soldier Home Records, George Mallonee was born on January 1, 1815 in Gettysburg, Adams County, Pennsylvania. He was a Methodist, 6 feet 2 inches tall, with dark complexion, blue eyes and grey hair. His nearest relative was Susan Phillips, Middlebury, Ohio. (Susan Mallonee married John W. Phillips on September 16, 1873 at Belmont County, Ohio.) George was admitted to the home on May 27, 1889 and died on September 29, 1889. See SOLDIER HOME RECORD.

The Ohio Grave Registration of Soldiers states he died (or was buried) on September 23, 1889. The Ohio Death Records describe that he was a Blacksmith, age 73.

The following is his Summit County Veteran's Burial Card, which shows he was buried on the same day as his death. The Ohio Veterans Home Deaths & Burials states his death date as September 29.

His Civil War 'Honorably Discharged' medal, issued by the State of West Virginia, is unclaimed at the West Virginia State Archives. His name is spelled as MALONEY on the medal.
