AFFIDAVIT FOR COMMISSIONED OFFICER OR COMRADE

STATE OF Pennsylvania
County of Green} ss:
In the Pension Claim of John Messenger personally came before me, a justice of the peace in and for aforesaid County and State Watson Karr late a private in company B of the 1 regiment of W. Va. Volunters, whose Post office address is Nettle Hill County of Green, State of Pennsylvania and who being duly sworn, declares in relation to the aforesaid case as follows; That John Messenger, late a private in company B. of the 1 Regiment of W. Va. Volunteers of the war of 1861, while in the military service of the United States in the line of his duty, and without fault or improper conduct of his, on or about the ___ day of June, 1864 near Lynchburg in the state of Virginia, did contract Neuralgia and a severe cold which settled in his chest. also at same place about May 1864 contracted chronic diarrhea from exposure and improper and insufficient food.

And he further declares that he has no interest, direct or indirect, in this claim, and that he makes the above statement from personal knowledge has vig. been present at the times and places above mentioned.

Volunters, whose Post office address is Deer Valley, Green Co Pa. County of Green, State of Pennsylvania and who being duly sworn, declares in relation to the aforesaid case as follows:
That John Messenger, late a private in company B. of the 1 Regiment of W. Va. Volunteers of the war of 1861, while in the military service of the United States in the line of his duty, and without fault or improper conduct of his, on or about the ___ day of June, 1864 near Lynchburg in the state of Virginia, did contract Neuralgia and a severe cold which settled in his chest. also at same place about May 1864 contracted chronic diarrhaea from exposure and improper and insufficient food.

A. I bargined to pay him $10.00 it was a written contract.

Q. State the amount of fees paid by you or at your instance, to whom paid, and all the circumstances connected with the transaction.
A. I paid him his fee $10.00 and have the receipt for the same.

Q. Please give me the names of all the witnesses that you desire examined elsewhere, with their post-office addresses and also state what you expect to prove by each witness.
A. Jerimiah Biggs, ? ? Maskey Co. Iowa. Andrew Mundy, Beatrice Appanase Co. Iowa and Ordly Sgt. Jno R. McCay, Washika Co. Kansas as to the origin of my disabilities while in the service.

Q. Have you any complaint to make as to the conduct, or fairness of the the examination of your claim? If so, please state specifically what it is.
A. Not at all. I'am very well satisfied. The testimony was read to me after the examination was closed.

Q. Do you desire to introduce any more testimony before me?
A. No, Sir
