MATTHEW POLLOCK LINN, Company "F"

Also served 3 months in Company "E" 12th Pennsylvania Infantry.

MATTHEW (also MATHEW) POLLOCK LINN, born about 1837/38, was the son of James Linn and Jane (Pollock) Linn of South Strabane Township, Washington, Pennsylvania. James was the son of Revolutionary War patriot James M. Linn, Sr. and his wife, Elizabeth Young, early settlers in Washington County. [See Daughters of the American Revolution Lineages below.]

There was another Matthew Linn in South Strabane Twp., just slightly older than the 1st West Virginia Cavalry soldier. The other Matthew was the son of Matthew Linn, another son of James M. Linn, Sr. Therefore, the two younger Matthew Linns were first cousins. According to J. H. Beers' Biography of Samuel Linn (another son of the older Matthew Linn), in Commemorative Biographical Record of Washington County, Pennsylvania (Chicago: J. H. Beers & Co., 1893), this other Matthew, brother of Samuel, "died in the army." A Matthew Linn is listed in Company "A" 85th Pennsylvania Infantry but it is unknown if this was the same man.
