CIVIL WAR PENSION RECORD OF WILLIAM COSS

Declaration For Pension
William Coss

State of Ohio, County of Montgomery.
On this 20th day of February, one thousand nine hundred and seven, personally appeared before me, a Notary Public within and for the Country and State aforesaid William Coss, who, being duly sworn according to law declares that he is 81 years of aged, and a resident of the National Military Home , County of Montgomery, state of Ohio, and that he is the identical person who enrolled at Wheeling West Virginia under the name of William Coss on the Spring of 1864 as a private, in L-Co 1st West VA Calvary on the 8 day of July 1864.
That his personal description at enlistment was as follows: Height: 5 feet 11 inches, complexion dark, color of eyes Dark, color of hair is Dark, that his occupation was Brick layer, and that he was born March 26, 1826 at Harrisville, Ohio.
That his several places of residence since leaving the service have been as follows:
Martins Ferry, Ohio from 1865-1904 since in National Military Home Dayton, Ohio.
That he makes this declaration for the purpose of being place on the Pension rolls of the United States under the provisions of the act of February 6, 1907.


Note: Adam was the son of David and Nancy Coss, early settlers of Martins Ferry.

Brothers, Adam, John and William all served in the First West Virginia Cavalry.
