WILLIAM WYATT, Company "L"

     John "William" Wyatt, born June 24, 1846, was the son of Jasper and Jane B. (Christy) Wyatt of Doddridge County, (W)Va.

     Private William Wyatt, Co. "L" 1st W.Va. Cavalry, was 18 years old when he enlisted at Wheeling on Feb 28, 1865. He was discharged July 8, 1865. He had enlisted as a Substitute Volunteer for Alfred Jennings, Esquire, of Doddridge County and was paid the sum of $300.00 by the Jennings Family. During his service, William worked at Remount Stations due to his knowledge of horses. His father, Jasper Wyatt was also a Union Civil War Soldier, serving with Co "E" 6th W.Va. Infantry - (More about Jasper).

     William was married three times:

1. Malinda Ann Watson Critchfield [a widow]
2. Liza Starcher [a widow]
3. Alma Wright [a widow]

     Malinda and William were married April 7, 1866 in Doddridge County, W.Va. They had 10 children and lived the majority of their lives in the Gandeeville area of Roane County.

3. Jasper Fred, Feb 06 1871 - July 12 1915
4. Mary Jane born Nov 10 1872
5. Minerva E born July 03 1873
6. Amanda P born Jan 30 1876
7. Frances Leona born May 19 1878
8. Clara B born May 03 1880
9. James Elijah, May 28 1882 - Aug 16 1973
10. George R, March 07 1886 - Dec 25 1889

     Malinda died in 1908 and is buried in the Gandeeville Cemetery. William married two more times before his death on July 7, 1935 at Depue Hospital in Spencer, Roane County, W.Va. He is buried at the Wyatt-Stalman Cemetery on Triplett Road, Spencer.
