THE DESCENDANTS OF JOHN BOON. Submitted by Carol Boone Beckenhauer & Norman Davis. Generation No. 1. 1. John Boon. The head stone in the Millers Run Cemetery, Cecil Twp., Washington Co. Pa., marking the final resting place of John Boon, shows that he was born in 1754. BEERS BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY OF WASHINGTON CO. PA. 1893, indicates that John emigrated to the United States from County Antrim, northern Ireland. Beers also shows that John was married to Nancy Badger and that she accompanied her husband on the journey across the "new world". There is some confusion as to Mrs Boon's first name. One biographical sketch in Beers uses "Nancy" as her name. Herbert H. Hay- man's book THAT MAN BOONE; FRONTIERSMAN OF IDAHO also uses Nancy in re- ferring to Mrs Boon, (pg.26). However, the same headstone marking the grave of John also marks his wife's grave. The marker lists "Margaret" as John's wife. Also, a deed conveying equal parts of land to sons John, James and Joseph and recorded July 29, 1823, lists "Margaret" as the name for Mrs Boon. The reason for the different names? Two different people? The author has seen no evidence to support that possibility. It is possible that both Nancy and Margaret are given names and that both were applied to her. Or one may be a "nickname". The author has chosen to use both names in referring to John's wife, with Margaret being the preferred one. CHILDREN OF JOHN BOON John and Margaret (Nancy) Boon raised 9 children; William, JAMES, John, Mary, Jane. Margaret, Elizabeth, Joseph and Nancy. William married Margaret McHargue of Dauphin Co. Records of Paxton (Paxtang) Presbyterian Church, Dauphin Co., show that the Rev. James K. Sharon united William and Margaret in marriage on December 29, 1818. The young couple had two children, Levi and Alexander, baptized in the same church before they made the westward journey over the mountains. Church records show that William and his wife were dismissed from membership on March 24, 1824. William purchased a farm that same year from John Park. The 170 acres lay in Chartiers Twp. near his fathers property. Joseph married Nancy McCoy, living in Cecil and Strabane twp. Daughter Elizabeth married Samuel Griffith and lived her life in Chartiers Twp. She and her husband are buried in Millers Run Cemetery. James married Margaret Miller and settled in Chartiers Twp.
