The regimental history books were written by the soldiers, for the soldiers & their families.
The complete regimental history of the First (West) Virginia Infantry is presented here, unedited.
Misspellings & other inaccuracies are inherent in these old books/records.
The 1st Infantry was initially a 3 month enlistment. Some men later enlisted for 3 years.
Records of the 3 months' service are scarce. Unless a man served again - or filed for a pension based on his 3 months' service - there are few, if any, records.
Without proof, it cannot be concluded that a name appearing in Appendix A (3 month) is the same person of that name in Appendix B (3 year).
An abundance of additional information is being added to this site, making it an ongoing project.
