  • May and June 1862 in hospital, Alexandria, Va. returned to duty Nov. 1862
  • Feb. 8, 1864 at New Creek, W.Va. reenlisted Corp. Co.E, 2nd Reg’t W.Va. Inf. for 3 years
  • Age 22 years, height 5’7’’, complexion-dark, eyes-brown, hair-black , born Martinsville, Oh.,
  • Occupation- laborer.
  • Mustered out- July 16, 1865 Clarksburg, W.Va.
  • John returned to Martinsville (Martins Ferry) Belmont County, Ohio and was killed in a accident at the Buckeye Glassworks, Feb. 8, 1888. He is buried in Riverview Cemetery, Martins Ferry, Belmont County, Ohio.
  • John’s younger brother, Robert A. Armstrong Pvt. Co.D- 1st Reg’t. W.Va. Cavalry died from wounds at Sailor’s Creek, April 7, 1865.
