Armstrong, John A. - Pvt. Co C 1st Reg. Va. Inf. Joined for duty Sept 14, 1861, Martinsville,(Martins Ferry) Oh for a period of 3 years; aged 20 years Mustered in Oct. 1, 1861, Wheeling, Va. Jan 1862 on sick furlough at Martinsville, Oh for 30 days May and June 1862 in hospital, Alexandria, Va. returned to duty Nov. 1862 Feb. 8, 1864 at New Creek, W.Va. reenlisted Corp. Co.E, 2nd Reg’t W.Va. Inf. for 3 years Age 22 years, height 5’7’’, complexion-dark, eyes-brown, hair-black , born Martinsville, Oh., Occupation- laborer. Mustered out- July 16, 1865 Clarksburg, W.Va. John returned to Martinsville (Martins Ferry) Belmont County, Ohio and was killed in a accident at the Buckeye Glassworks, Feb. 8, 1888. He is buried in Riverview Cemetery, Martins Ferry, Belmont County, Ohio. John’s younger brother, Robert A. Armstrong Pvt. Co.D- 1st Reg’t. W.Va. Cavalry died from wounds at Sailor’s Creek, April 7, 1865.
