Note: At the outset of the war, James Donnelly, a resident of Cameron, raised a company of men to form Company "F" [or "H". See Conflicts in the records] of the original First West Virginia Infantry regiment, in service for 3 months, May-August 1861. He was then elected Captain of Company "D" of the reorganized First Infantry regiment, which enlisted men for 3 years.
