BIOGRAPHY

H. H. Hardesty's History of Wetzel County, West Virginia

     Elijah Morgan is a son of Hiram J. and Melinda (Long) Morgan, both natives of Wetzel county, and he is a grandson of the celebrated pioneer of Western Virginia, Morgan Morgan, whose name is so often mentioned in this Encyclopedia. He was born in Green district, January 15, 1840, and in this county, October 26, 1865, he married Martha Jane Robinson, who was born in Jefferson county, Pennsylvania, and came to Wetzel county with her parents, William and Caroline (Tallmadge) Robinson, when they settled here in 1845. Mr. and Mrs. Elijah Morgan have six children, the oldest Annie May, living in a home of her own in Magnolia district, this county, and the others at home. Those living with their parents are: Priscilla Emeline, born February 1, 1867; Clara Louisa, February 18, 1869; Samuel Theodore, February 23, 1871; Maggie Belle, September 24, 1874; Friend Wells, July 8, 1880. In the war between the States, Elijah Morgan was a participant, serving in Company H, 1st West Virginia Infantry, in which he enlisted in 1861. He was sergeant in his company, and was in service until the close of the war. He was in the battle at Winchester, Opequon, Cedar Mountain, Roods Hill, New Market, Snicker's Gap, Moorefield, the last fight at Bull Run, and in all the engagements of the Shenandoah campaign. He is a farmer and lumberman, and his post office address is New Martinsville, Wetzel county, West Virginia.
