Samuel W. Kimmins (also Kimmons), Company "D", 1st Regiment W. Va. Infantry and Company "G", 2nd Regiment W. Va. Veteran Infantry.

His Civil War medal, owned by Linda Cunningham Fluharty, is engraved Samuel H. but this is an error.

Samuel, a resident of Dallas, Marshall County, W. Va., enrolled at Cameron, W. Va. on 1 Nov 1862 as a Private in Company "D" 1st West Virginia Volunteer Infantry; consolidated Nov or Dec 1864 into the 2nd Veteran Infantry. He was honorably discharged 16 Jul 1865 at Clarksburg, W. Va. His pension application describes him as a farmer, 5 feet 8 inches tall, with light complexion, blue eyes and sandy hair. His pension certificate # is 748.545.

Samuel was born 10 Apr 1843 at Dallas, Marshall County, W. Va., the son of John and Eleanor A. (Ferrell) Kimmins. (John Kimmins served in Company "K" 12th West Virginia Infantry.) Samuel was married to Mary Matilda Mooney, of Elm Grove, Ohio County, W. Va., on 12 Oct 1869 by Rev Josiah Stevenson at West Alexander, Penna. He died 17 Feb 1914 at Dallas, Marshall County and was buried 19 Feb 1914 in Mt. View Cemetery, Dallas, Marshall County, W. Va. by Crider Bros. Funeral Directors, Dallas.
